Morecambe Good News Van

The Morecambe Good News Van is part of The Good News Trust Christian Library Service (Registered Charity Number 326684)

The Good News Trust is an interdenominational venture, currently (June 2006) operating 18 small vans by teams of volunteers, providing a free Mobile Christian Library Service. Rosalind Allan began the Trust in Stamford about 25 years ago and relates the story in her book "Out of the Ark". A copy is carried by all the vans. The present Director, January Wheeldon, coordinates the Oundle team and - together with the Trustees - oversees, supports and encourages all the teams.

The Good News Trust is a faith ministry funded entirely by free gifts. Each new team is provided with a roadworthy van, taxed and insured for a year. Arrangements are made for the initial stock of items carried - often supplemented by stock donated by other van teams. Subsequently, teams are independently responsible for the stock, maintenance, repair, tax and insurance of their vehicles. Every six months each team, in turn, receives a donation of stock from "Send the Light" warehouse. This generous service enables teams to keep abreast of recent Christian publications and modern books for children and young people. Items are also purchased from local Christian book shops, both by the teams and their borrowers.
